Best justification for not buying a diesel donkey that I’ve seen (ex LCCSA)

PostPosted: Fri May 17, 2013 1:29 pm    Post subject: Re: V8 reliability questions?

Difference in fuel consumption between 1HZ and V6??In 10000km, the V6 gulps down +- 1667 litres (6 km/l), = R 20370 (@ R 12,22/L)The Donkey +- 1428 (7km/l), = R 17560 (@ R 12.36/l)Difference is 239 litres, and R 2810.Your “extra” service on the Donkey is around R 1200.so………physical monetary difference is R 1610 over 10 000km, or 16 cents a kilometer. Or a difference of a measly R 161 over 1000 kilometers.If that bothers you, with all due respect, then look at something like a Polo Diesel. Wink

And let’s not forget this

1HZ                                                                                                                                            V6

Under the bonnet > Drivetrain
Maximum power: (kW @ r/min) 96 @ 3800
Maximum torque: (Nm @ r/min) 285 @ 2200

Maximum power: (kW @ r/min) 170 @ 5600

Plasma Winch Rope

I needed to replace my winch cable , as it had worked very hard , especially when I had it on the Disco . I decided to go for a plasma rope instead , mainly because it is easier to work with and much safer as well . I sourced it from Bud Morris of Sunset Equipment fame.

You can read up more on plasma ropes here

And here’s a great video on splicing ropes

De Wildt 4×4 Trail

Below is footage of my latest testing of Bo. I have moved the water tanks to just behind the cab , and this has made the balance much better . I was also impressed at how waterproof it is compared to a landy

De Wildt 4×4

Colin and I spent the morning at De Wildt 4×4 to test the new suspension setup . Must admit I’m very happy with the results. Thanks to Paul and co for letting us tag along. And thanks to Joe for the theory and practical . Very nice setup , wish we’d had enough time for the mountain trail as well
